Teachers need a more practical way to understand, control and measure the level of intensity of physical exertion during Physical Education (PE) lessons for the benefit and safety of overweight students. The Children's OMNI Scale of Perceived Exertion developed by Robertson et al (2000) can be used as a tool to enable students of this population to gauge their exercise intensity. The application of the Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) will encourage students to develop a perceptual awareness of their physical exertion so as to ensure optimal workout sessions at appropriate intensities. Overweight students will be able to identifiy and moderate exercise intensities that is suitable and comfortable for them to maintain.
